Guide on how to convert GeoScene3D grid *. csv files to FEFLOW *. trp

After the final model is set up in GeoScene3D, the individual grid files can be exported from GeoScene3D as a *. csv file, and can be directly imported into example Visual MODFLOW Pro as a groundwater model. If we instead wish to import the GeoScene3D model into WASY FEFLOW as a groundwater model for thermal or mass-flow calculations, this can be done with relatively few adjustments.

First, the desired grid files is being exported from GeoScene3D as *. csv file.
Remember to check whether your computer is running a national (ex. Danish) or International configuration, since GeoScene3D stores decimals fixed as ".". This is particularly important if you run with national setup, since you are likely to have csv files with coordinates like "50.021.648.241.842" instead of "500216.48241842" because of the digit group separator.

After you have exported the files from GeoScene3D, you simply open the csv files in excel and saves it again as "other formats". Select the file type "Text (MS-DOS)" and save. If you open the text file, it should look like this:

X Y Z
500216.4824 6263781.826 20
500286.4824 6263781.826 19

The file now needs to be saved as a standard FEFLOW *. trp file with a Schlumberger format . First remove the line with X, Y, Z and go to the bottom of the coordinate series and type "END". Save the file as and chose file type "All Files" and enter the file extension after the filename ".trp" and save.

500216.4824 6263781.826 20
500286.4824 6263781.826 19
END

The file is now converted and can be imported into FEFLOW as a grid surface. In this way you export a whole model from GeoScene3D into FEFLOW relatively simple.

I have tested this method on several detailed groundwater models which I have set up in GeoScene3D, and they all worked fine with proper setups, as long as the model is based on the original georeference system from GeoScene3D.

I have just added grid export to space separated text files. The implemented format is more generic than the *.trp format you describe. However, you simply have to remove the header line and add the trailing END. Both 2D grids (surfaces) and 3D grids can be exported to this format. The new export format will be available in the next release.
